Bounce Back From Adversity
We live in a fallen world surrounded by broken people doing their best to carry on and find happiness. Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (Jn 16:33).
Whether your adversities took the form of lack of acceptance, criticism, or abuse growing up that distorted your sense of self, or divorce, losses, poor decisions, narcissistic abuse or even unavoidable, abrupt changes that rocked your world as an adult leaving you jaded and distrustful, we've all experienced the feelings of anger, disappointment, betrayal, grief, and overall broken-heartedness. Loads of it.
Have you figured out yet that shoving the hurt aside and bravely soldiering on only leaves you going through life trying to be salt and light, trying to achieve goals, trying to be presentable, all while carrying a huge backpack loaded with heavy bricks accumulated from a lifetime of all that stuff, big and small.
Jesus said to "take heart", that He has "overcome the world".
This is all about the heart and learning to overcome the weight of those bricks. The goal is not to be stronger and have a better stiff upper lip like some kind of noble martyr.
The goal is mental and emotional wholeness and freedom, so you can dump the backpack and run the race you're called to with wings on your feet and in your heart.
